Professional Licensure Disclosures

Prospective Students

If you reside outside of Louisiana and are interested in completing a degree program at Southern University and A&M College or from Southern University Online that leads to a professional license or certification in the state where you are located, it is imperative that you understand your state's regulations and requirements for licensure PRIOR to enrolling at the university.

The professional licensure and certification requirements for degree programs may vary from state to state.  Southern University ensures its educational programs meet the requirements of the various accrediting agencies and works to confirm if programs meet the educational prerequisites of their specific professional licensure or certification outside the state of Louisiana.  Students who are considering an academic program that may allow them to pursue professional licensure in their state are strongly encouraged to check their state’s information and contact the appropriate licensing agency to seek information and additional guidance before beginning a program outside of their state.

The degree program's webpage also has contact information for program personnel who can help answer specific questions in this regard and who will do their best to help connect you to the credentialing requirements of the state in which you aspire to practice.

Continuing Students and Relocation

Students who plan to pursue licensure outside of Louisiana should be aware that state licensure requirements are subject to changes. Licensure information is reviewed and updated on this site annually, in May. While a program may originally meet the educational requirements for licensure, changes in licensure requirements could impact the program's ability to meet any new educational requirements. Students should always check with their state licensure board to confirm licensure requirements before and after enrolling at Southern University.

Continuing students should also keep in mind that licensing and authorization requirements vary by state.  Relocating between states, after the initial enrollment period, could impact whether students can continue in the course, meet the eligibility requirements of a new state, and/or receive financial aid funding.  Prior to relocating, continuing students, should contact their program’s advisor, and the appropriate licensing agency in the new state to confirm authorization and licensure eligibility requirements.
