What is the Honors College Ambassadors program?

The Dolores Margaret Richard Spikes Honors College Ambassadors are composed of a diverse and dedicated niche of outstanding honors students who desire to enhance their leadership skills, while also contributing to the legacy of the department once selected.  Our ambassadors have the opportunity to serve in this capacity through graduation provided that they continue to meet all requirements.

 

What are the requirements to becoming an Honors College Ambassador?

 

  • be an honors student in good academic standing with the Honors College
  • have a minimum of a 3.3 cumulative GPA at the time of application and every semester as an Ambassador
  • have participated in the Honors College for at least one semester;
  • if a freshman, a freshman is allow to serve as an ambassador with exceptional leadership skills and academic credentials
  • comfortable speaking with small and large groups, on and off campus
  • availability for monthly training sessions or meetings, and a minimum of 3 events per semester


What are the duties and responsibilities of Honors College Ambassadors?

  • serves as hosts to prospective students who are visiting our Honors College
  • participate in on-campus recruitment events
  • assist with phone calls, mailings, and related Honors College recruitment tasks
  • participate in recruitment events or visits around the city and state
  • assist with college special events such as convocation, commencement, lectures, annual honors programs, etc.
  • attend our monthly Ambassador training meetings,(typically on a date convenient for everyone, as well as our bi-annual workshops (fall and spring).

 


What are the benefits of becoming an Honors College Ambassador?

 

  • developing interpersonal, communication and leadership skills
  • fostering a network with Honors College and Southern University faculty, staff and administration
  • enhancing your professional experiences, while make connection for strong letters of recommendation
  • developing new relationships with other exceptional students
